The Government recently announced the introduction of a new system which will be used by ports operating a pre-lodgement model, mostly designed for non-inventory linked ro/ro ports. This will be used from 1st January for transit departures and movements from GB to NI.

GOODS MOVEMENT REFERENCE (GMR)

A goods movement reference (GMR) will be generated for every vehicle (loaded or empty) making a crossing via a GVMS route. The driver will need to present a valid GMR to the carrier at the UK port of departure and will not be permitted to proceed without one.

In addition a Kent Access Pass (KAP) is required for all departures leaving via Dover or the Eurotunnel.

Although at present the responsibility to create the GMR lies with the haulier, we have registered for GVMS and anticipate managing this process for some of our clients, especially importers and exporters operating their own vehicles from Europe.

GVMS provides live status updates, and sends notifications if the GVMS record is incomplete or invalid. Our team will monitor this status to ensure the crossing goes smoothly.
